This "Saraswati" painting is an excellent specimen of the typical Mysorean style of iconic painting. Lines are free and flowing, firm and fluid. The details are crisp and expressive.
The traditional paintings of Mysore represent a minute, but noteworthy, continuation of the Vijaynagar murals and incorporates Deccani elements. This style was crystallized in and around Mysore during the reign of the Wodeyar rulers.
It is a distinct art form and not to be confused with the Tanjore style which is more popular. Since the artists in Mysore were favoured by the royalty and the wealthy, the mysore art incorporates architectural and ornamentation nuanaces of the Maharajas and this makes them unique.
The use of traditional techniques makes it not only beautiful but gives the piece organic and one-of- a -kind soul. Water based pigment colours is used on cloth and pure gold foil applied on the "muck detail". The Gold is 24 K gold foil and put in the traditional form.
